Abstract Cpds. of formula (I): (where R1, R2 and R3 are H, halogen, alkoxy, NO2, NH2 alkanoylamino, CN, SO2NH2, SO2NHAlk, SO2N(Alk)2, trihalomethyl, alkylthio, alkylsulphenyl or alkylsulphonyl, or R1+R2 can also be OCH2O or OCH2CH2O; R4 is H, alkoxy or halogen; R5 is NR6R7 or a gp. of formula: where R6 and R7 are alkyl or NR6R7 is an opt. substd. 5- or 6-membered heterocyclic ring opt. contg. another N or O atom; R8 is alkyl; m = 1 or 2; n = 0-3; all alkyl and alkoxy gps. are of low mol. wt.) are prepd. by heating and/or irradiating novel cpds. of formula (II): Cpds. (I) are CNS depressants, anticmetics, analgesies, brocholytics, antianaphylactics and antigastrics (sic).
