Fault recovery system for data processing system

Abstract

Abstract PURPOSE:To shorten time up to regeneration of an I/O request from an operating system, i.e. fault recovery time, by directly informing the end of initialization due to the generation of a fault from a service processor to the operating system. CONSTITUTION:At the time of generating a processing request to a certain logical device, the operating system refers a fault display area 2a, and when the logical device is not generating a fault, generates the processing request, and during the generation of the fault, suspending the generation of the processing request. When a fault is generated during the processing of a generated processing request, each logical device such as I/O processors 3a, 3b informs the effect to the service processor 5, the contents are displayed on a fault display area 2a, and after ending the initialization of the logical device generating the fault, the effect is informed to the operating system generating the processing request. Consequently, the processing request can be regenerated from the operating system immediately after the end of the initialization of the logical device due to the generation of the fault and useless waiting time can be omitted.
