Driving method for solid-state image pickup element

Abstract

Abstract PURPOSE:To obtain a longer shutter time by inhibiting a high-speed transmission for exhausting unnecessary charges and that for transferring signal charges to the charge transmitting element string of an accumulating part at prescribed time prior to the transmission of charge pulse for electronic shutter. CONSTITUTION:The following two are provided with a switching circuit 11 to switch vertical transmission pulses for normal transmission and high-speed transmission, and a switching circuit 12 that switches vertical transmission pulses for the high-speed transmission to exhaust unnecessary charges such as smearing charges and for the high-speed transmission of signal charges from the charge transmitting element string obtained from an image pickup area to the charge transmitting element string in an accumulation area. At prescribed time prior to the transmission of charges for electronic shutter, the high-speed transmission to exhaust unnecessary charges such as smearing charges and that to transfer the signal charges from the charge transmitting element string in the image pickup area to the charge transmitting element string in the accumulation area, are both inhibited. Therefore, charge pulses for electronic shutter can be transferred at an arbitrary timing. As a result, an electronic shutter whose shutter time can be set arbitrarily can be obtained.
