Reinforcing method for optical coupler
Abstract
Abstract PURPOSE:To reinforce an optical coupler without causing variation in branching ratio nor loss of optical power by sheathing a coating removed part with a reinforcing pipe between coating parts positioned at both ends of the coating- removed part and fixing the reinforcing pipe and a unwelded part, and the reinforcing pipe and coating parts mutually. CONSTITUTION:When the optical coupler 1 is reinforced through reinforcing members, the outer peripheries of the coating removed parts 3a and 3b are sheathed with the reinforcing pipe 1 so that both ends of the reinforcing pipe 11 reach the end parts of coating parts 7a and 7b, and 8a and 8b. Then an adhesive 13 made of low-fusion-point glass paste is put in the reinforcing pipe 11 like a dam from cut parts 12a and 12b at both ends of the reinforcing pipe and the adhesive 13 is applied over the outer peripheral surfaces of unwelded parts 5a and 5b, and 6a and 6b and the inner peripheral surface of the reinforcing pipe 11. Then a laser beam is emitted from outside the reinforcing pipe 11 to the adhesive 13 in it to heat and hold the adhesive 13 at specific temperature and make it glassy, thereby fixing the unwelded parts 5a and 5b, and 6a and 6b and the reinforcing pipe 11 mutually.
