Abstract
Abstract NEW MATERIAL:The compound of formula I (R is H or lower alkyl; R1 and R2 are lower alkyl; m and n are 0-4). USE:Useful as a precursor for 4'-hydroxybiphenyl-3-carboxylic acids or 3-(4- hydroxyphenyl)-cyclohexanecarboxylic acids useful as monomers for polyesters, etc. PREPARATION:The compound of formula I can be produced by reacting cyclohexanone-3-carboxylic acids of formula II with phenols of formula III in the presence of an acid catalyst (e.g. hydrogen chloride gas) at 30-100 deg.C.
