Abstract

Abstract PURPOSE:To prevent the machined surface of an optical fiber connector from being flawed and damaged by providing a cam for causing the optical fiber connector to retreat once in a final process and keeping a noncontact condition between the side of a reference member and the machining surface of the connector. CONSTITUTION:When a support member 4 for cutting an optical fiber connector 2 holds this connector 2, the machining surface thereof is pressed to the reference surface of a reference member 9 at a position off a grinding stone 3, thereby restricting the holding position of the connector 2 with the support member 4. In this process of positioning the connector 2, the reference member 9 comes in contact with the grinding side of the grinding stone 3, thereby keeping the cutting amount of the connector 2 constant at all times and enabling quantitative machining. Furthermore, after the completion of the grinding process, the conical grinding surface of the finished connector 2 is once retreated from the grinding side of the grinding stone 3 via a cam 67, interlocked with the feed of the grinding stone 3. As a result, it is possible to ensure the freedom of the finished surface from a flaw and damage.
