Nonlinear optical material and its orientation
Abstract
Abstract PURPOSE:To enable to form a thin film-shaped or fibrous waveguide and to obtain great nonlinear optical effect by incorporating a compd. having an electron donative substituent and an electron attractive substituent into a polyoxyalkylene matrix. CONSTITUTION:A dielectric compd. having an electron donative substituent and an electron attractive substituent is incorporated in the oriented state into a polyoxyalkylene matrix as a nonlinear optical material suitable for a thin film-shaped or fibrous waveguide. Since the dielectric compd. is oriented uniaxially to a spiral structure to the polyoxyalkylene matrix with interacting effect, phase separation and occurrence of ununiform crystallization are not caused even a large amt. of the dielectric compd. is contained. Thus, satisfactory flexibility and mechanical strength are obtd. The product is usable in the shape of thin film or fiber, resulting high degree of orientation, so superior nonlinear optical effect is exhibited.
