Magnetic head
Abstract
Abstract PURPOSE:To improve wear resistance and to extend the life of a magnetic head by packing a nonmagnetic member via wear resistant nonmagnetic films into a pair of recesses delineating the width of a magnetic gap. CONSTITUTION:Two lines of the recessed which delineate the length l of the magnetic gap in the transverse direction of a tape are formed to both sides at the top ends of a pair of magnetic half bodies 11, 12 constituting a magnetic head in parallel over the entire surface for contact with the tape. The glass 17 as the nonmagnetic member are packed in the recesses. The wear resistant nonmagnetic films 18 consisting of forsterite or magnesium titanate are interposed between the glass 17 and the wall surfaces of the recesses in which the glass is packed so as to form a part of the surface for contact with the tape. The wear resistance of the part for contact with the tape where the head comes into contact with the tape at a high relative speed is thereby improved by the provision of the wear resistant nonmagnetic film 18. The life of the magnetic head is thus extended and the need for exchanging the head is eliminated for a long period of time.
