Manufacture of exhaust manifold for internal combustion engine
Abstract
Abstract PURPOSE:To manufacture the titled lightweight manifold whose inside is smoothed with the high quality by welding exhaust pipes made of ferritic stainless steel with the specific composition to a box body by using a wire of the same system steel kind under specific conditions. CONSTITUTION:With the exhaust manifold for an internal combustion engine provided with the plural exhaust pipes 21-24 and the box body 4, ferritic stainless steel pipe bodies containing, by weight, about 0.31% Ti with contents of C and N <= about 0.010% and <=0.015% respectively are used for the exhaust pipes 21-24 and a plate body of the same stainless steel is used for the box body 4. Then, said wire of the same system steel kind as said stainless steel which is subjected to coating treatment for reducing the feed resistance on the surface is used to perform the MIG welding of the exhaust pipes 21-24 to the periphery of a hole part of the box body 4 with an inverter type MIG welding power source with the high performance under conditions of the welding speed 100-160cm/min and the heat gain 2000-2500J/cm. By this method, the exhaust manifold to stand fully the influences of the thermal stress, vibration and residual stress is obtained.
