Halftone processor
Abstract
Abstract PURPOSE: To make a hardware circuit simple and low-priced by providing a storage memory where a repetitive dot pattern of small size can be written and read optionally. CONSTITUTION: Dot patterns of necessary irreducible sizes are generated according to the number of mesh lines and a dot angle θ which are previously specified and the recording density of a recording device 100, and a dot pattern of a square area of size corresponding to an uniquely determined repetition cycle is extracted from the dot patterns to eliminate the need to generate all dot patterns of large size, thereby reducing the storage capacity. The extracted dot pattern of the square area is set as a repetitive dot pattern in the storage memory 103, and when a large-size dot pattern is generated, it can be expanded only by making a read repeatedly. Consequently, the dot pattern of large size is generated with the simple hardware constitution and a dotting process can be performed.
