Manufacture of paste type cadmium anode plate for alkaline storage battery

Abstract

Abstract PURPOSE:To improve an oxygen gas absorbing characteristic by applying a slurry to a cadmium electrode; the slurry is obtained by mixing carbon powder, fluorinated resin powder of larger sized particles than those of carbon powder, and a hydrophilic paste. CONSTITUTION:A slurry which is obtained by mixing carbon powder, fluorinated resin powder of larger sized particles than those of carbon powder, and hydrophilic paste is applied to a cadmium electrode which is formed by applying a paste of cadmium active material onto a conducting core. When the carbon layer, formed being applied with the slurry, is dried, the drying starts from the surface of the cadmium anode plate, and at first fluorinated resin particles of larger sizes are fixed and carbon particles of smaller sizes remain without being fixed and drift in the solvent; finally a layer containing only carbon particles and almost no fluorinated resin particles is formed. It is therefore prevented that fluorinated resin enters an active material layer and deteriorate its electrolyte keeping ability.
