Variable length packet communication system

Abstract

Abstract PURPOSE:To evade flow control and control a delay time and to make a packet communication with good efficiency by providing a means which adjusts packet length according to characteristics of information and the state of a network to a transmission side. CONSTITUTION:A packet length setting part 4 determines the packet length according to kind information on the information to be sent and/or state information on the network and sends its packet length information to a packet composition part 1. The kind information (e. g. sound, moving picture, or still picture) on the information to be sent is supplied to a terminal side. Further, the state information (e. g. whether convergence occurs or not) on the network is obtained by a network state detector 3 by monitoring a flow control state etc. from an exchange through a line controller 2. Consequently, the flow control is evaded and the delay time is controlled. Thus, a packet communication can be made with good efficiency.
