Production of calcium silicate
Abstract
Abstract PURPOSE:To obtain fine calcium silicate having sharp particle size distribution and controllable particle size, by producing a raw slurry of calcium silicate by the reaction under strong shearing force and subjecting the slurry to hydrothermal treatment. CONSTITUTION:An alkali metal silicate is made to react with a water-soluble calcium salt in an aqueous medium under the action of strong shearing force to obtain a raw slurry of calcium silicate. If necessary, the slurry is washed before the following steps. The objective calcium silicate can be produced by the hydrothermal treatment of the raw slurry. The alkali metal silicate used in the above process is preferably sodium silicate from the viewpoint of economy and industrial availability. It is preferable to use an alkali metal silicate having a molar ratio of alkali metal to silicic acid (SiO2/R2O; R is alkali metal) of generally 1.5-3.4 because the obtained calcium silicate has an extremely small average particle diameter.
