Active matrix type liquid crystal display element

Abstract

Abstract PURPOSE:To provide the titled device capable of low-voltage driving, outstanding in tone and quick response, consisting of a liquid crystal composition containing at least one kind of liquid crystal compound of specific structural formula and switching device. CONSTITUTION:The objective display device consisting of (A) a liquid crystal composition comprising i) pref. 1-50wt% of at least one compound selected from 1-(trans-4-n-alkylcyclohexyl)-2-(trans-4-n-alkylcyclohexyl or alkylcyclohexylphenyl) ethane and 1-(trans-4-n-alkylcyclohexyl)-2-(trans-4-n- alkoxycyclohexyl)ethane of formula I and II (R1, R3 and R4 are each 2-8C (alkyl; R2 is 1-8C (alkyl or alkoxy) and, if needed, ii) other liquid crystal compound(s) [e.g. compound(s) of formula III and/or IV (R5 is 2-8C alkyl)] and (B) a switching device.
