Process for improving quality of alginic acid gel
Abstract
Abstract PURPOSE:To obtain alginic acid gel excellent in color tone, smell, palatability, etc., by supplying quantitatively a swollen viscous liquid in which alginic acid (salt) is dissolved and a gelling agent suspension with is hardly soluble in water into a biaxial mixer to mix them, and then allowing the mixture to gel for molding. CONSTITUTION:A swollen viscous liquid containing alginic acid (salt) in a concentration of 0.8wt.% or below, and an aqueous suspension containing 0.3-10wt.% hardly water-soluble gelling agent (e.g., CaSO4) plus thickening agent (e.g., guar gum) are supplied quantitatively at a certain rate continuously into a biaxial mixer (e.g., a biaxial screw extruder) which is provided with a liquid inlet and a liquid outlet and will serve as a sealed vessel when the inlet and the outlet are closed under such conditions that air will not remain in the mixer, and are mixed to disperse. The mixed dispersion is removed from the outlet, filled in a mold, etc., and allowed to gel for molding.
