Production of fine crystal grain alloy
Abstract
Abstract PURPOSE:To simply and easily produce a fine crystal grain alloy having high strength and high ductility by coating low melting metal powder at a specific ratio on the surface of fine metal powder and molding and sintering the coated powder obtd. in such a manner, thereby nonuniformly solutionizing both metals. CONSTITUTION:The surface of the fine metal powder having 0.1-20mum grain size is coated with 0.1-50wt.% >=one kinds of metals which have the m.p. lower than said metal powder and solutionize with each other. This coating can be executed by an electroless plating method, sputtering method, etc., and the coating layer thickness is adequately about 100Angstrom -5mum. The coated powder obtd. in such a manner is then molded by a press, etc. This molding is thereafter sintered. The above-mentioned metal powder is annealed under the conditions under which the nonuniform solid soln. structure bonded with the coated part contg. the above-mentioned small amt. of the solutionized powder metal is obtd. in the state in which the metal powder and the coating metal elements do not solutionize uniformly with each other and the powder part contg. the small amt. of the solutionized coating metal elements substantially maintains the initial grain size of the metal powder. The high-strength high-ductility alloy having the fine crystal grains is thereby easily obtd.
