Abstract

Abstract PURPOSE:To improve the accuracy of knocking control by obtaining the maximum value of the detected signals of a knocking sensor certain number of times and carrying out knocking control based on the maximum value of the highest generating frequency operated from the distribution characteristic of the generating frequency. CONSTITUTION:The maximum value of the detected signals of a knocking sensor 4 at least during a knocking generating period in the vicinity of the top dead center is obtained certain number of times by a maximum value detecting means 5, and the distribution characteristic of the generating frequency is operated by a distribution characteristic operating means 6. Thereby, the maximum frequency value is obtained by a maximum frequency operating means 7. And, a controlled variable setting means 8 sets the controlled variable of knocking control such as a knock judging level, etc. based on the maximum frequency value, and the ignition timing of an ignition plug 3 is set to a lag side by a combustion condition control means 2, to restrain the generation of knocking. Thereby, even if background noise and knocking signals are varied due to the error between each knocking sensor, secular change in operating conditions, and the like, a knocking generating condition can be accurately grasped, to carry out highly accurate knocking control.
