Production of ceramics
Abstract
Abstract PURPOSE:To obtain a superconducting oxide ceramic having completely and homogeneously oxidized structure, by using a mixture of an oxide and a carbonate as a raw material and calcining the mixture in a water-containing oxygen gas stream. CONSTITUTION:A mixture 7 of an oxide and carbonate such as Y2O3, BaCO3 and CuO is used as a raw material. The mixture is placed on a specimen table 6 made of alumina, inserted into a quartz glass vessel 5 and heated by electrifying an electric furnace 4. Dried oxygen gas 1 is introduced into a humidifier containing steam 3 generated from water or an aqueous solution of H2O2 and the obtained water-containing oxygen gas 1 is supplied to the vessel 5. The mixture in the vessel is calcined under the supply of the water-containing oxygen gas to obtain a ceramic of formula (M1 is one or more elements selected from Y, La, Yb, Lu, Sc, Al and B; M2 is one or more elements selected from Ba, Sr and Ca). The produced ceramic is crushed, formed in the form of pellets and calcined in an oxygen atmosphere containing water.
