Abstract

Abstract PURPOSE:To simplify magnetic disk management, by unitarily managing plural sets of storage devices in such a way that continuous physical sector numbers and logical sector numbers are given to the plural storage devices and the final sector number of each storage device is registered in a faulty sector table. CONSTITUTION:Plural storage devices are unitarily managed in such a way that continuous physical sector numbers are given to the storage devices connected with one computer and continuous spaces are managed by assuming continuous logical sector numbers, and then, the logical sector numbers are converted into physical sector numbers by avoiding faulty sector numbers by referring to a faulty sector table where the final sector number of each storage device is registered. Since management of faulty sectors and management of plural disks are united in such way, the program of a disk handler has the same constitution irrespectively of the number of disks. Therefore, the disk management can be simplified and the program of the disk handler can be prepared easily.
