Sealed buffer for catalytic converter
Abstract
Abstract PURPOSE:To reliably prevent a seal member from loosing its shape and slipping in position, and easily handle a sealed buffer by interposing the seal member between inner and outer layers of a wire net tube, and forming corrugation at a portion of the wire net tube except the seal member. CONSTITUTION:A sealed buffer 1 is constituted of a wire net tube 2 as a buffer and a seal member 2. The wire net tube 2 is formed from a wire net having a predetermined width which wire net is formed by knitting a stainless steel wire in a loop and flattening the knit wire. The wire net tube 2 is constituted of an inner layer 2a and an outer layer 2b. The mat-like seal member 3 having a predetermined width is interposed between the two layers 2a and 2b. In a portion of the wire net tube 2 except the seal member 3, the inner layer 2a is superimposed on the outer layer 2b, and such a superimposed portion is formed with helical corrugation 3c on opposite sides of the seal member 3 by a forming machine having a gear roller. Then, one of both ends 7 and 8 of the flat wire net is inserted into the other end, and is fixed together by spot welding 9 to thereby form the tubular wire net 2.
