Abstract

Abstract PURPOSE:To enable holding of a brake force by means of a small device, by a method wherein the two cylinder chambers of a reciprocating cylinder controlled by a brake pedal is connected through an electromagnetic valve brought to a shut off position under a given condition, and a check valve is situated in parallel to the electromagnetic valve. CONSTITUTION:During driving of a car, it is decided whether an oil pressure for a reciprocating cylinder 18 having a piston rod 19 coupled to a brake pedal 13 is held or not, namely, whether an electromagnetic valve 12 is located in a shut off position 29. If decision is NO, when the valve is located in a connection position 28, by means of an output from a speed detector 9, it is decided whether a car is brought into a stop or not. During a stop, when a condition, in which a brake pedal 13 is stepped on, is continued for more than a given time (about 0.5-1.5sec), the electromagnetic valve 12 is demagnetized, and brought into the shut off position 29. This, even if a foot is separated from the brake pedal 13, enables the brake to be held in a condition that a brake force is left rendered effective. Further, a check valve 31 and a manual valve 33 are situated in parallel between lines 23 and 27 connected to chambers 21 and 22, respectively, of the cylinder 18.
