Servo assisted stopping brake

Abstract

Abstract PURPOSE:To obtain positive stopping of a vehicle by operating a brake device with a smaller braking force on a flat road and strengthening the braking force as required on a slope or the like. CONSTITUTION:When it is detected that a brake pedal is depressed to stop a vehicle and the depression of the brake pedal is kept for a predetermined waiting time after the vehicle is stopped, a control unit 53 closes a negative pressure-side electromagnetic opening and closing valve 51 and opens an atmospheric pressure-side electromagnetic opening and closing valve 50 for a predetermined time T and then closes it. Then, an atmospheric pressure of a reference pressure corresponding to the reference time T is introduced through conduits 43, 42 and a passage 41 into a pressure chamber 39 located backside of an auxiliary piston 35, so that a valve plunger 11 is advanced through the auxiliary piston 35 to operate the brake. If the braking force is so small as to cause a slight movement of the vehicle, the control unit detects the movement and strengthens the braking force.
