Abstract
Abstract PURPOSE:To adequately assure a cell gap and to improve the fixing strength of glass substrates by interposing non-thermoplastic spacers for forming the cell gap and thermoplastic spacers for adhering upper and lower oriented films formed larger than the non-thermoplastic spacers between both oriented films. CONSTITUTION:The non-thermoplastic spacers 6... which consists of glass fibers, alumina or plastic beads, etc. and have a circular section and the thermoplastic spacers 5... which consist of the thermoplastic beads, powder, etc. slightly larger than the spacers 6... and have a circular section are alternately disposed atop the oriented film 4a. The spacers 6... are for setting the cell gap and are constituted of a stock which is hardly deformable by heating and pressurizing. On the other hand, the spacers 5... are plastically deformed when pressurized and heated to widen the contact area with the oriented films 4a, 4b so as to improve the adhesiveness between the glass substrates 1a and 1b and to increase the strength of the substrates 1a, 1b against external force.
