Abstract

Abstract PURPOSE:To convert CaO on the surface of recovered sand to CaCO3 and to prevent the strength deterioration of a casting mold by reconditioned sand by connnecting the waste as route of a rotating furnace for the recovered and used for a cold box method and recoverd sand classifier by a duct and introducing the waste gas of the roasting furnace into the classifier. CONSTITUTION:The used and recovered sand of a casting mold formed by the cold box method is roasted in the roasting furnace 1 to burn away combustible component such as binder resin remaining therein. The roasted sand is then charged into a stripping device 5 where the deposits on the surfaces of the recovered sand formed by the roasting are stripped away by centrifugal force. The sand is thereafter put into the classifier 7 by which the recovered sand is classified. The waste gas from the furnace 1 is supplied through a cyclone 9, a cooler 10 and a dust collector 11 to the classifier 7 by a duct 13. A small amt. of CaO sticks to the surfaces of the recovered sand. This CaO reacts with CO2 in the waste gas to form CaCO3. The CaO on the surface of the recovered and is converted by moisture to Ca(OH)2 with the casting mold formed by using such recovered sand. Such defects as to shorten the pot life of the sand and to deteriorate the strength of the casting mold are thus eliminated.
