Abstract

Abstract PURPOSE:To stabilize a substrate electrode and to obtain a large optical density by constituting the first electrode contacting with a non-electrolyte solution from an electroconductive substrate and a polyaniline film and by incorporating a pair of anions to said film. CONSTITUTION:The titled element is constituted of a pair of electrodes 3 and 4 and the electrolyte solution 5. The electrode 3 is constituted of the electroconductive substrate composed of the substrate electrode and the polyaniline film allowed to contact with the conductive electrode. The prescribed polyaniline film has an electrochromic function, and the electrode 3 acts on a functional electrode. The polyaniline film comprised the pair of the anions capable of forming a stable quarternary ammonium salt in an organic solvent having a polarity which is used as the non-electrolyte. Thus, the substrate electrode is stabilized, thereby enabling to have a long life and to obtain the large optical density.
