Abstract

Abstract PURPOSE:To set a read region more simply by projecting a coordinate scale on a read face of an original and designating the read region based on the projected coordinate scale. CONSTITUTION:An original 24 is set on an original platen, a motor 19 is driven to move a carrier 3 at the position of the projection center detected by a detec tion sensor 21, a motor 13 is driven further to move a projection unit 5 to be at a position on an optical axis of an image forming lens 2 detected by a detection sensor 15 and a light source lamp 10 is lighted in this state. Since a lattice-shaped coordinate scale is projected on the original 24, then after the read region is designated based on the coordinate, the projection unit 5 is saved to position the sensor unit 4 on the optical axis of the lens 2. After the carrier 3 is restored once to the home position, the image information of designated regions A, B is read while the carriage is being run along a rod 16 at a constant speed.
