Abstract

Abstract PURPOSE:To improve the durability in laying operation by arranging suspension wires which has a smaller external diameter than an optical fiber cable core in parallel, and covering them with a common sheath so that the external diameter is maximum at the core side. CONSTITUTION:External diameters of three suspension wires 2a, 2b, and 2c are all smaller than the external diameter of the optical fiber cable core 1. In this case, 2a>2b>2c and the suspension wires are arranged at one side of the optical fiber cable core 1 in parallel and coated with the common sheath by extrusion so that the external diameter of the sheath 3 is maximum at the optical fiber core side. This fiber cable 11 is taken up around a cable drum 12 in a sheath extruding process, and then the optical fiber core 1 becomes longer. Therefore, a sag is given the cable core 1 during its laying to not only obtain allowable tensile force which is durable sufficiently in long-period use, but also reduce the weight.
