Thin-film magnetic head
Abstract
Abstract PURPOSE:To narrow down the track width of a recording medium without depending upon the upper magnetic core width of a magnetic head and to maintain high precision by generating a recording magnetic field between magnetic cores in a groove, and weakening a magnetic field produced outside the groove. CONSTITUTION:Gaps are set in relation g2>>g1, then Rg2>>Rg1 and phi1>>phi2, air obtained, and only a sufficiently weak recording magnetic field is produced at a part Gap II as compared with a part Gap I; when a signal is recorded on a recording medium, recording to the medium is performed only at the part Gap I, and the part Gap II does not contribute to the recording. Namely, the track width of the head is determined corresponding to the width TW1 of the part Gap I and the width 2TW2 of the part Gap II is reduced to an area where recording is not performed. Then, the track width of the magnetic head is determined by the groove work precision of an insulating layer 4 without being affected by the work precision of an upper magnetic core 3. Consequently, the track width of a thin-film magnetic head is obtained easily with high precision and the manufacturing process is simplified.
