Abstract

Abstract PURPOSE:To improve remarkably the sliding characteristic and wear resistance of a magnetic disk by forming the magnetic recording layer of the magnetic disk of a Co alloy and using stabilized zirconia as the main phase of the slider of the magnetic head. CONSTITUTION:The magnetic disk is formed by providing an underlying layer on a substrate and forming a Co contg. magnetic recording layer consisting, for example, of Co-Cr alloy, Co-V alloy, Co-Ni alloy, etc. by a vapor deposition method such as sputtering thereon. The zirconia into which a stabilizer enough to exist as cubic zirconia even at an ordinary temp. is used as the main phase of the slider and if necessary, the pulverous particles of at least one kind of the compd. selected from the group consisting of the carbide of the group IVa, Va, VIa group elements of periodic table and alumina are dispersed therein. The magnetic recording device having the excellent sliding characteristic and high wear resistance is thus obtd.
