Abstract
Abstract NEW MATERIAL:The 4-substituted-phenoxyacetic acid 4-(5-substituted-pyrimidinyl-2)phenyl ester of formula I (R<1> and R<2> are 1-10C alkyl or alkoxy). EXAMPLE:4-Heptylphenoxyacetic acid 4-(5-hexylpyrimidinyl-2)phenyl ester. USE:A component of a liquid crystal composition. It is a compound having an N-I point of about 50 deg.C, and high compatibility with a liquid crystal composition composed of other liquid crystal compound. Accordingly, it is suitable for the preparation of a liquid crystal composition for a liquid crystal display element. PREPARATION:The compound of formula I can be prepared by reacting the 4-substituted-phenoxyacetyl chloride of formula II with 4-(5-substituted-pyridinyl- 2)phenol in pyridine.
