Method and apparatus for producing preform blank material for closed forging having irregular sectional shape

Abstract

Abstract PURPOSE:To obtain efficiently a preform blank material having a large upsetting ratio without cracking by heating the working part of the material cut to a prescribed size just prior to the upsetting in the stage of subjecting said material to extruding and upsetting after preliminary forming under pressure to obtain the preform blank material. CONSTITUTION:The material W which is to be formed and is obtd. by cutting a steel bar to a prescribed size has a rough end face. A transfer carries such material between a punch 13 and a die 14 when the material is set in a predetermined manner in the 1st working part. A ram advances in succession thereto and the punch 13 forces the material W into the dies 14, 15 which press and pressurize the material, thereby preforming said material. The end face is thus shaped and surfaced. The punch 13 retreats and the material W is ejected by a knock-out pin 12 and is conveyed to the 2nd working place. The material W is extruded in the same manner in said part from which the material is conveyed to the 3rd working place. The material is inserted into the die 35 and the top end of the stem part is projected to a heater 36, by which said part is heated to the warm state. The heated material is conveyed to the 4th working place where the top end of the stem part is upset to the required shape.
