Engine camshaft
Abstract
Abstract PURPOSE:To obtain a highly wear-resistant engine cam shaft having a greatly reduced weight, by forming the camshaft such that cams made of ceramic materials are incorporated with a metal shaft. CONSTITUTION:Metal end bearing parts 1, 4 forming a shaft section, an intermediate bearing part 3 and cam parts 2 made of ceramic materials disposed thereamong are integrally coupled together. Each ceramic cam part 2 is composed of an exhaust cam 2a, an intermediate shaft section 2c and an intake cam 2b which are integrally formed for one engine cylinder, and has cylindrical coupling projections 2d at both ends thereof in the axial direction. Further knock holes 2e for checking rotation thereof and positioning thereof are formed in the peripheral surfaces of both projections 2e at predetermined positions.
