Optical waveguide plate with connector
Abstract
Abstract PURPOSE:To make connection of an optical waveguide and optical fibers easy and to improve accuracy by forming connectors for connection having such holes for insertion of the optical fibers with which the centers of the optical fibers and the optical waveguide coincide with each other to a base plate for the optical waveguide. CONSTITUTION:Connectors 7 for connecting optical fibers and an optical waveguide are preliminarily formed to a base plate 5a for forming the optical waveguide. More specifically, a base plate 5b for forming the optical waveguide with connectors is formed by thermocompression molding of a thermosetting resin or thermoplastic resin contg. glass fibers, etc. as a filler by means of dies. An optical waveguide 6 is formed to the plate 5b. An optical fiber 1 is inserted and fixed into a plug 8 which can be fitted and removed to the connector 7 and if the connector 7 and the plug 8 are fitted, the end face of the fiber 1 arrives at the end face of the plate 5b by passing through the insertion hole 9 of the connector 7. The optical waveguide and the optical fiber are thus easily connected with high accuracy.
