Optical pulse train forming device

Abstract

Abstract PURPOSE:To form an optical pulse train by optical processing by putting optical pulses into optical fibers different in length after branching these pulses, and forming an optical pulse train at the output terminal. CONSTITUTION:The optical pulses radiated from a light source 1 are made incident to an optical fiber 2, then branched into a prescribed number (n) of ports by an optical branch coupler 3 to be made incident to optical delay lines 41...4n respectively. These delay lines consist of optical fibers having lengths L, 2L...nL which are equal to integer multiples as much as the prescribed length L. Therefore, the optical pulses different in time to reach the output terminal of each optical fiber. Thus (n) units of optical pulses are different in delay time. These (n) units of optical pulses are connected again to an optical fiber 6 by an optical branch coupler 5, then multiplexed.
