Surface hardening method of fe-base, ni-base and co-base alloys by ion nitrification
Abstract
Abstract PURPOSE:To form a surface hardened layer excellent in abrasion resistance, by applying ion nitrification treatment to an Fe-base, Ni-base or Co-base alloy containing a specific amount of Cr in a nitrogen atmosphere of which the pressure and temp. are specified. CONSTITUTION:An Fe-base, Ni-base or Co-base alloy containing at least 10- 40wt% of Cr is cast and ion nitrification treatment is applied to said alloy in a nitrogen atmosphere with a pressure of 0.5-15Torr or an atmosphere of a gaseous mixture consisting of nitrogen and hydrogen at 500-700 deg.C. By this method, a surface hardened layer with high hardness showing excellent abrasion resistance can be formed on the surface of the Fe-base, Ni-base or Co-base alloy impossible to surface harden in a conventional method.
