Abstract

Abstract PURPOSE:To improve switching characteristics, by constituting the first superconductor layer part, which does not face a tunnel barrier film so that the part has high lattice defect density in comparison with a part facing the barrier film. CONSTITUTION:A tunnel type Josephson junction element is constituted by a first superconductor layer 5, a second superconductor layer 9, and a tunnel barrier film 8 formed between them. In the Josephson junction element having such a constitution, the first superconductor layer 5 is divided into a part 21 facing the tunnel barrier film 8 and a part 22 which does not face the barrier film 8. The lattice defect density of the part 22, which does not face the barrier film 8, is made larger than that of the facing part 21. Since the amount of magnetic flux arrested by the first superconductor layer 5 is decreased, the change in switching characteristics due to the magnetic flux arrested by the first superconductor layer 5 can be avoided.
