Preparation of assembled filament body

Abstract

Abstract PURPOSE:To obtain assembled filament body having high mechanical characteristics and heat resistance by coating a heat resistant resin on the surface of monofilament of glass fiber, and impregnating the heat resistant resin into bundled monofilaments. CONSTITUTION:A primary covering layer 2 consisting of a heat resistant resin is formed on each filament 1 of glass fiber. Many number of the coated monofilament 1 are bundled and immersed in the soln. of prepolymer of the heat resistant resin or in the soln. of the heat resistant resin, and then cured by heating to form a secondary covering layer 3. By this method, an assembled filament body 4 comprising many numbers of monofilament 1 dispersed in a matrix 2, 3 of a heat resistant resin is obtd. The assembled filament body 4 has both high strength and heat resistance, and is particularly suitably useful for a structural member of optical fiber such as tention member, etc.
