Laser light source
Abstract
Abstract PURPOSE:To enable to use a semiconductor laser as a light source and to readily generate a light in the prescribed intensity by providing a Faraday rotor before one reflecting surface, and generating counterclockwise and clockwise circularly polarization light of different frequencies by the rotor under a magnetic field. CONSTITUTION:When a Faraday rotor is not provided, or provided but a magnetic field is not applied, the oscillating light of the semiconductor laser 21 is resonated in the state that TE wave and TM wave is retracted between the reflecting surfaces 3 and 4. When the rotor is not provided or provided but the magnetic field is not applied in this manner, these two modes have a relationship of timing inversion. Accordingly, if the magnetic field is applied to the rotor to release the retraction, when the frequency of clockwise circular polarization is given by omega+DELTAomega, the frequency of counterclockwise circular polarization is given by omega-DELTAomega. Thus, since the frequencies are emitted from the reflecting surface 4 as the clockwise and counterclockwise circular polarizations of omega+DELTAomega, omega-DELTAomega, they can be separately produced by a lambda/4 plate and the polarization isolator. In other words, accordingly to this configuration, the semiconductor laser can be used as a light source equivalently to the gas laser.
