Production of metal halide complex salt of formalin- condensed diazo compound

Abstract

Abstract PURPOSE:To produce safely and economically the titled complex salt suitable for use as a photosensitive material, by adding a sulfuric acid soln. of a specified formalin-condensed diazo compd. to a water-soluble org. solvent soln. contg. a metal halide to effect a reaction therebetween. CONSTITUTION:Paraformaldehyde in a quantity of at least 0.5 time by mol that of a diazonium salt described below is added to a sulfuric acid soln. of a diphenylamine-4-diazonium salt obtd. by diazotizing the amino groups of an amine of formula I (wherein X, Y is H, alkyl, alkoxy, halogen; Z is H, alkyl, alkoxy) to effect a condensation reaction therebetween, whereby a soln. mixture is formed. Said mixture is then added dropwise to a water-soluble org. solvent soln. (which may contain not more than 20% water) contg. a metal halide of formula II (wherein X' is halogen; M is Zn, Cd, Co, Sn) in a quantity of at least 0.5 time by mol that of said diazonium salt to effect a reaction therebetween, thus producing a metal halide complex salt of a formalain-condensed diazo compd.
