Abstract

Abstract PURPOSE:To decrease the amount of crosstalk and reduce noise by making the photodetection area of an each photodetector smaller than the light output area of a scintillator element in a radiation detector which has the scintillator and a multichannel type photodiode. CONSTITUTION:The photodetection area of the photodetector 3 of an X-ray detector 1 is made smaller than the light output area of the corresponding scintillator element 5. Carrier K2 generated in the area of the terminal part DELTAd of the scintillator element 5 serve as a signal current when DELTAd is smaller than the diffusion length L of the minority carrier of a semiconductor substrate 2, and deterioration in sensitivity is smaller than when DELTAd=0. The distance between the photodetectors is set to d1 so as to allow the carrier K2 to reach the p-n junction of a contiguous channel, and then they move by the distance d1-DELTAd at a minimum. For the purpose, (d1-DELTAd>L) is defined, the crosstalk of the multichannel type photodiode is reduced.
