Preparation of antimony pentoxide sol
Abstract
Abstract PURPOSE:To enable preparation of antimony pentoxide sol of high concn. by allowing sodium antimonate to react with inorg. acid to form antimony pentoxide gel and deflocculating it with base. CONSTITUTION:Alkali antimonate such as hydrate of sodium antimonate is allowed to react with 0.7-5 times weight basing on stoichiometric proportion of uni- or bivalent inorg. acid such as HCl, HNO3, H2SO4 or sulfamic acid at room temp. -100 deg.C for 1-15hr to form antimony pentoxide gel. The gel is separated from water by filtration under vacuum, washed with water to remove coexisting acid and alkali metal salt. Then, org. base such as triethanolamine is added stoichiometrically in 0.03-1.0 ratio of base to Sb2O5, and the gel is deflocculated at room temp. -150 deg.C for 0.5-20hr. By this process, antimony pentoxide sol of high concn. having 30-55wt% Sb2O5 is obtd.
