Abstract

Abstract PURPOSE:To shorten the reading time by increasing the scanning speed of a detecting means when a prescribed reading object does not exist so as to quicken the scanning at spaces. CONSTITUTION:A CPU15 transmits a signal to a control circuit 6 for high speed searching in order to rotate a reading sensor 1 and a light source at the start of scanning. When a signal representing the existence of the reading object is transmitted from a signal processing circuit 14, the angle of rotation of the reading sensor 1 and the light source is restored to the angle of rotation of the normal reading speed, the moving speed of a carriage is restored to the normal value so as to start the reading. If the signal representing the existence of the reading object is not transmitted to the signal processing circuit 14, the carriage speed remains high and the high speed searching is continued.
