Production of heat-shrinkable polyolefin tube
Abstract
Abstract PURPOSE:To produce the titled tube having no risk of crazing, by crosslinking a heat-set silane-graft polyolefin tube by contact with water in the presence of a silanol condensation catalyst. CONSTITUTION:99-95wt% polyolefin is grafted with 1-5wt% organosilane of the formula (wherein R is a monovalent olefinically unsaturated hydrocarbon or hydrocarbyl, Y is a hydrolyzable organic group, and R' is Y or a monovalent hydrocarbon group other than aliphatic unsaturated hydrocarbons) at 150-250 deg.C in the presence of an organic radical generator, e.g., dicumyl peroxide. The grafted polyolefin is mixed with a silanol condensation catalyst and formed into a tube, which is heated to enlarge its diameter, cooled to set the enlarged diameter, and crosslinked by contact with water.
