Assistant for transcutaneous absorption and drug composition for external use containing the same
Abstract
Abstract PURPOSE:To provide the titled agent for promoting the transcutaneous absorption of a drug and useful as a component of a drug composition for external application, by using at least one kind of an aliphatic hydrocarbon ester of 2- pyrrolidone-5-carboxylic acid as an active component. CONSTITUTION:The objective assistant for promoting the transcutaneous absorption of a drug contains at least one kind of the compound selected from the aliphatic hydrocarbon esters of 2-pyrrolidone-5-carboxylic acid (e.g. pyrrolidonecarboxylic acid methyl ester). Any drug applicable to the skin can be used as the drug to be compounded with said assistant. A drug for local action (e.g. procaine hydrochloride) can be impregnated deep in the skin, and a drug for systemic action (e.g. indomethacin) can be transferred rapidly to the blood. The absorption promoting effect can be improved by the combined use with a hydrophilic compound (e.g. methyl alcohol) in the case of a 1-5C hydrocarbon ester, or with a hydrophobic compound (e.g. n-hexane) in the case of a >=6C hydrocarbon ester.
