Abstract

Abstract PURPOSE:To prevent a decrease in flaw detection ability of metallic materials by utilizing an Al2O3-TiC ceramic as an acoustic matching layer. CONSTITUTION:A probe is provided with a packing material and an acoustic matching layer on one surface and the other one of a piezoelectric vibrator, respectively. The packing material absorbs ultrasonic waves radiated from the back of the piezoelectric vibrator, and suppresses vibration. Moreover, the acoustic matching material is provided to facilitate irradiation of an ultrasonic wave to an object to be detected, and an Al2O3-TiC ceramic whose major elements are Al2O3 and TiC. This Al2O3-TiC ceramic offers high hardness and appropriate acoustic impedance, and has property hard to be damaged.
