Connection part of optical fiber

Abstract

Abstract PURPOSE:To eliminate the entry of water by charging a filler which has specific characteristics in the circumferential space of a part peeled off a coating material including the coupling part of an optical fiber and a gap communicating with the circumferential space. CONSTITUTION:A multi-core optical fiber cable and numbers of single-core optical fiber cords 12 are bundled together. A reinforcing sleeve 13, tube 14, tension member 15, and protection sleeve 16 are provided; plural coating members at an end part of the optical fiber cable 11 are cut to expose optical fiber multi-core units covered with a pressure wound tape 11n, and the coating member of each unit including its pressure wound tape 11n is cut to expose optical fibers 11a, 11b... to necessary length. Fillters 14a and 19 use grease itself or after moisture absorbing additives are mixed, and the grease is soft at room temperature and has 85-475, preferably, 120-400 worked penetration measured on ASTMD-217 basis at room temperature.
