Device for detecting meandering of strip

Abstract

Abstract PURPOSE:To surely detect only the meandering of a strip, by discriminating whether the outputs of side edge detectors indicate the meandering of the strip or the abnormal shape thereof. CONSTITUTION:The positions of the side edges of a strip 4 are found out by a pair of side edge detectors 2, 3. The difference between the output signals of the detectors 2, 3 is calculated by a detection circuit 5, while the sum of the output signals is calculated by a detection circuit 12. One of the maximum value signal of the output of the detection circuit 12 and the set strip width signal of an external strip width setter 13 is selectively stored in a memory circuit 14. The strip width deviation (q) of the output signal of the detection circuit 12 from the output signal of the memory circuit 14 is compared with an allowable deviation (s) set by a strip width allwable deviation setter 15, by a comparator circuit 16. If the strip width deviation (q) is smaller than the set allowable deviation (s), the output signal of the detection circuit 5 is judged to indicate the meandering of the strip 4. If the deviation (q) is larger than the allowable value (s), the output signal of the detection circuit 5 is judged to indicate the change in the shape of the strip 4.
