Abstract

Abstract PURPOSE:To form stably and rapidly a high-contrast image having high sensitivity and little fog by carrying out processing with a developing soln. contg. a specified compound, a reducing compound and sulfite. CONSTITUTION:A photosensitive silver halide (AgX) material which is an AgX emulsion contg. >=60mol% silver chloride and at least one kind of reducing compound selected among dihydroxybenzene, derivs. thereof, 3-pyrazolidone, derivs. thereof, p-methylphenol and derivs. thereof is processed with a developing soln. contg. at least one kind of said reducing compound, a compound represented by the formula (where R1 is nitro, R2 is H or 1-5C lower alkyl, and M is H, an alkali metallic atom, an alkaline earth metallic atom or a cation such as an ammonium ion) and sulfite. The pH of the developing soln. is adjusted to >=11, and the soln. further contains an amino compound. It is preferable that the photosensitive AgX material is processed in the presence of a polyalkylene oxide compound or a hydrazine compound. Higher contrast, increased sensitivity and reduced fog can be attained by combining the photosensitive material contg. a developing agent and having a high silver chloride content with the developing soln. contg. indazole and sulfite at a high concn. each.
