Joint structure of pillar and side sill

Abstract

Abstract PURPOSE:To prevent plastic deformation near the joint by applying reinforcement on the lower wall at the pillar section adjoining to the joint between pillar and side sill and the side sill section adjoining to the joint. CONSTITUTION:A reinforce 10 is arranged between each outer panel 1a, 2a and inner panel 1b, 2b of side sill 2 and front pillar 1 where the trailing edge of projection 15 of reinforce 10 is held between jointing flange 14 and spot welded while the upper edge of base section 13 continuous to the rear edge of projection 15 is held between the upper flange 11 and spot welded. The joint flange 14 at the side of pillar outer panel 1a constructing an inflated section 5 is extended below said flange 14 at the pillar inner panel 1b side to weld the extended section together with the reinforce 10 to the upper flange 11 of side sill 2.
