Turbocharger
Abstract
Abstract PURPOSE:To reduce the weight of a turbocharger and simplify the positioning of bearings for supporting a shaft, by making a center housing of aluminum alloy, and holding a bearing casing made of steel, so that the bearing casing is located in the center of the center housing and the bearings are positioned in the bearing casing. CONSTITUTION:The housing of a turbocharger 30 comprises a center housing 31 made of aluminum alloy, a compressor housing 32 made of aluminum alloy and coupled to one side of the center housing, and a turbine housing 33 made of cast iron and coupled to the other side of the center housing. A cylindrical bearing casing 38 molded from a heat-resisting metal such as cast iron, which is different in quality from the center housing 31, is held on the inside circumferential portion of the center housing. Bearings 35 for supporting a shaft 34 are positioned on the inside circumferential portion of the casing 38. According to this constitution, the weight of the turbocharger 30 is reduced, and the positioning of the bearings 35 is made easy and accurate.
